The Countryside Fire Protection District received multiple calls on Monday afternoon regarding a car accident at the intersection of Lakeview Parkway and North Fairway Drive in Vernon Hills. Witnesses reported that one vehicle had crashed into a nearby retention pond, with the driver still inside. In response, divers from the Libertyville Fire Department and the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District were quickly dispatched to the scene.
A photo shows the roof and luggage rack of an SUV partially submerged in the pond, highlighting the severity of the incident. When firefighters arrived, the driver had managed to exit the vehicle and was sitting on the roof. He was assisted by bystanders and later taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Both drivers involved in the crash were transported for treatment.
Firefighters entered the water to secure the SUV for removal by Ernie’s Wrecker Service. Divers used straps to prepare the vehicle for lifting, ensuring it could be safely pulled from the pond.
