Autodesk introduces Total Carbon Analysis for a more sustainable built environment

Autodesk is excited to announce new features and updates across its AECO (Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations) portfolio designed to support more sustainable, efficient, and innovative workflows. These updates are the result of direct feedback from our customers, who continue to emphasize the need for smarter tools that help them meet evolving industry demands. One of the most significant announcements is **Total Carbon Analysis for Architects**, a new offering within the AEC Collection. This tool empowers architects to track the carbon footprint of their designs from the earliest planning stages through detailed design. It includes **Embodied Carbon Analysis in Autodesk Forma**, currently in Tech Preview, which leverages AI to provide real-time insights into the environmental impact of early design choices. Soon, additional capabilities from Autodesk Insight will allow users to analyze the carbon impact of lighting, HVAC systems, materials, and other building components. In addition to sustainability-focused updates, Autodesk has expanded its integration with **Esri’s ArcGIS® Basemaps** in AutoCAD and Civil 3D. This enhancement gives civil engineers access to rich geospatial data, enabling more informed decision-making and reducing environmental impacts during the design process. For water and wastewater teams, new updates to the Esri integration offer better access to asset condition data, risk analysis, and rehabilitation plans. Another key release is **Tandem for AEC**, now available to all BIM Collaborate Pro subscribers. Tandem offers a digital twin solution, allowing AEC firms to deliver a living, connected representation of projects along with owner manuals, asset data, and warranty information. This helps ensure that valuable construction data is not left unused, but instead becomes a powerful tool for operations and maintenance. AI continues to play a central role in these updates. **AutoCAD 2025** introduces new **Smart Blocks** tools powered by Autodesk AI, including **Search and Convert** and **Object Detection**, which automate repetitive tasks and improve standardization in drawings. Meanwhile, **InfoDrainage** gets an AI-powered upgrade with the **ML Deluge Tool**, which allows users to interactively analyze stormwater management scenarios in real time. These updates reflect Autodesk’s ongoing commitment to helping the AEC industry move toward a more sustainable and efficient future. As we continue rolling out new features over the coming weeks, we’re focused on delivering tools that empower professionals to innovate, collaborate, and build smarter.
