The Barrington Fire Department was called to a structure fire on Crestview Lane in Lake Barrington just before 9 PM last night. Upon arrival, first responders found heavy flames inside what would later be identified as a vacant house undergoing renovation. The scene quickly grew complex, requiring multiple units and mutual aid from neighboring departments.
Lake Zurich Engine 2 (3214) arrived shortly after the initial units from Barrington Station 3, setting up a relay pumping operation that would be sustained by a tanker shuttle from the end of Crestview Lane at Old Barrington Road. Barrington Engine 3612 took the front line, pulling three lines into action. The fire was brought under control within an hour, despite temperatures in the low 80s and high humidity.
Several tankers from surrounding areas responded, including units from Palatine Rural and Long Grove, which were seen waiting to dump water into a portable tank at the scene. Firefighters from Lake Zurich Engine 2 used this setup to maintain a steady water supply for the frontline engines.
Multiple images captured the effort, showing Barrington Engine 361 drafting water from the portable tank, while other units stood by in staging areas. Mutual aid companies came from Hoffman Estates, Carpentersville, Mundelein, Cary, Palatine, Bartlett, Wauconda, Algonquin-Lake In The Hills, and Deerfield, highlighting the coordinated response to the incident.
Larry Shapiro, a local photographer, arrived after the fire was out and captured several shots of the scene and the staging area. His photos show the scale of the operation, with units like Hoffman Estates Engine 23, Carpentersville Engine 942, and Cary Squad 255 parked nearby, ready for further action if needed.
West Dundee Fire Department also sent a unit, using their Pierce Saber on the second alarm. These images give a glimpse into the extensive resources and teamwork involved in tackling the fire.
