Celebrating Outstanding Visual Storytelling and Technology This Awards Season

The films, series, and stars celebrated during every awards season might change, but one thing remains consistent—Autodesk software continues to play a pivotal role in creating exceptional animation and visual effects (VFX) in the entertainment industry. This year is no exception, as artists from studios around the globe relied on Autodesk tools such as 3ds Max, Arnold, Flame, Maya, and Shotgun to craft unforgettable movies and TV shows that captivated audiences worldwide. Among these, several of this year's Best Visual Effects Oscar nominees were brought to life using these cutting-edge technologies. For the 24th consecutive year, talented creators harnessed the power of Autodesk solutions to contribute to some of the most memorable cinematic experiences of 2018. To learn more about the tools behind this year’s award-winning and nominated films and TV shows, check out the resources available on our website. This year, our tools supported artists in bringing all five films nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects to life. These include "Avengers: Infinity War," "Christopher Robin," "First Man," "Ready Player One," and "Solo: A Star Wars Story." One of the standout projects was "Solo: A Star Wars Story," which involved over 1,200 artists and technicians globally. They meticulously crafted vehicles, character performances, and environments while also digitally scanning more than 500 characters, props, and sets. The film features 90 minutes of visual effects, showcasing the incredible detail and dedication put into its creation. Another remarkable project was "Avengers: Infinity War," which featured an impressive 2,680 VFX shots. Meanwhile, "Christopher Robin" included nearly 1,400 VFX shots, and "First Man" utilized 615 VFX shots to enhance its storytelling. "Ready Player One" also required over 900 VFX shots to bring its imaginative world to life. These achievements highlight the collaborative efforts of thousands of artists working across VFX studios spread across four continents. Our software played a crucial role in various stages of production, from previsualization to virtual cinematography, VFX, and post-production. Congratulations to all the nominees! Your dedication and creativity inspire us to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with technology. Whether it’s through breathtaking visuals or innovative storytelling techniques, your work continues to redefine the landscape of modern cinema. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey, and we look forward to seeing what you achieve next!
