5th Alarm fire in Woodstock, 11-26-13

Hey everyone, This is coming straight from Tyler Tobolt. Here's what happened last night on November 26, 2013. The Woodstock Fire Department was called out to a potential barn fire at 16812 Kunde Road in Union. When the units arrived, they found a hay barn that was completely engulfed in flames. At 6:40 PM, Command put out a call for MABAS Box #5-73 to the 2nd Alarm level. They needed a Crystal Lake engine, a Marengo engine, a Union tanker, a McHenry tanker, a Cary tanker, a Harvard squad, a Wonder Lake squad, a Huntley RIT chief and engine, EMA, and the Salvation Army. For the Command Operations Quarters (COQ), they had a Fox Lake engine, Marengo EMS, Woodstock chief, and Nunda Rural tanker. Not long after, Command raised the alarm to the 3rd Alarm level at 6:48 PM. This brought in a Wauconda engine, the Nunda Rural tanker, a Hebron tanker, an Algonquin truck, a McHenry squad with a cascade, and a Harvard chief. Around 7 PM, Command escalated the situation to the 4th Alarm, specifically requesting additional tankers. This deployment included a Hampshire tanker, a Spring Grove tanker, a Fox River Grove tanker, and a Richmond tanker. The crews were dealing with a massive hay barn that was entirely ablaze, with some nearby structures showing signs of exposure. All tankers were tasked with supplying water to multiple fire lines. After about 1.5 hours into the operation, Command put out another call for MABAS Box #5-73 to the 5th Alarm level but this time specifically for engines. This brought in a Rutland-Dundee engine and an engine from Walworth, WI. By around 9 PM, the MABAS Box was officially cleared, but all teams were still actively engaged in firefighting efforts. Thanks for sharing, Tyler. [Attached are several photos taken by Tyler Tobolt showing the intensity of the fire and the extensive response from various departments.] --- I hope this version captures the sequence of events more clearly while maintaining the authenticity of real-time reporting!
