Still & Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 7-30-16

This message comes from Eric Haak: --- Saturday afternoon (July 30th), around 4:45 PM, the main fire alarm office dispatched the 18th battalion to the 1500 block of South Kostner Avenue. Engine 38 quickly arrived and boxed the fire, reporting both an exposure issue and a burn victim. I got there just as the flames were starting to die down in the attic, so most of my photos are focused on the positioning of the firefighting equipment. The first few shots show Engine 95 stretching a hose up to the second floor in the back. In the third image, you can see fire bursting out of a couple of windows at the front of Side B, though one window is partially hidden by bushes. It took about 20 minutes for the Still & Box to be extinguished. ![Firefighters on the roof of a house with smoke](#) ![Firefighters in overhaul mode after a house fire](#) ![Firefighters continuing the overhaul process](#) ![Chicago FD Engine 38 in action](#) ![Chicago FD Engine 95 stretching a hose](#) ![Chicago FD Engine 99 arriving on scene](#) Even the older Seagrave trucks are still in use here in Chicago. ![An old Seagrave truck at the scene](#) And here’s a shot of a Chicago FD lieutenant directing operations. ![Chicago FD Lieutenant coordinating efforts](#) --- *Note: All images are credited to Eric Haak.*
