House fire in Crystal Lake, 4-15-17

On April 14, 2017, a house fire broke out at 4005 Illinois Street in Crystal Lake, within the jurisdiction of the Nunda Rural Fire Protection District. The incident required a Box Alarm to be activated for tenders to establish a reliable water supply—a crucial step in managing the situation effectively. As a bystander and photographer, Steve Redick captured several images of the firefighting efforts and the various apparatus involved. The first image shows a Crystal Lake Fire Department engine arriving on the scene, its bright red paint gleaming under the afternoon sun as firefighters prepare their equipment. Next, there’s an image of a Cary Fire Protection District tender, a massive vehicle designed to transport large quantities of water to support the primary firefighting units. In another shot, we see a compact Nunda Rural FPD mini pumper, a nimble yet powerful piece of equipment that can navigate tight spaces while delivering essential firefighting resources. A closer look at Nunda Rural FPD Engine 41 reveals its role as a key player in the operation, with firefighters working diligently around it. The Grayslake Fire Protection District contributed a tanker, a formidable presence in the photos, highlighting the collaborative effort among neighboring departments. Union Fire Protection District also sent their tanker, further emphasizing the importance of mutual aid agreements in emergency situations. The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills fire engine is visible in one frame, its crew focused on containing the blaze. McHenry Township FPD brought their fire truck, adding additional manpower and resources to the mix. Round Lake Fire Protection District’s fire engine can be seen in action, while the Mundelein Fire Department deployed Truck 431, a critical asset for aerial operations if needed. Fox Lake FPD sent their fire engine, reinforcing the regional response. Fox River Grove FPD’s tanker is another notable contributor, ensuring an uninterrupted water supply throughout the operation. Nunda Rural FPD Engine 45 makes an appearance in one of the final shots, showcasing the dedication and teamwork displayed by all departments involved. In these photos, what stands out most is the professionalism and coordination demonstrated by each department. The collective effort highlights how local fire services come together during emergencies to protect lives and property. Steve Redick’s photographs not only document the event but also serve as a testament to the hard work and dedication of firefighters across the region.
