Do not let misunderstanding damage your car engine oil use

The temperature in the north drops sharply and there is a large temperature difference between day and night. This brought a big test to the car's "heart" engine. Many car owners have accumulated a lot of experience in the past, but every time they discuss the use of oil, they always feel that their maintenance methods may not be the best. The role of oil I think we all know that it is the engine's "blood", play a role in the engine lubrication, cleaning, cooling, sealing, grinding. I will not be too much here.

Misunderstanding 1: Domestic-made cars blindly use imported high-end motor oil

Some vehicle owners think that imported oil must be better than domestic ones, so they use imported oil on domestic cars, especially new ones. As everyone knows, doing so is often not worth the candle. There are many drawbacks. For example, most imported oils have low viscosity and cannot meet the requirements of domestic vehicles for oil viscosity. In addition, the coefficient of thermal expansion and fit clearance of the materials of various engine parts made of domestic engines are larger than that of imported cars, and most domestic cars do not have engine oil radiators. If imported engine oil is blindly used, engine oil will be too thin due to the normal operating temperature of the engine. To make the hydraulic pressure low, or even not meet the required working pressure, can not meet the normal lubrication needs, so that the engine wear increased.

Misunderstanding 2: Black oil is the deterioration of engine oil

The engine oil is operated under harsh high temperature conditions and is easily oxidized and degraded, generating acidic substances and superimposing synthetic polymer deposits, resulting in destructive lubrication. In addition, the burning of the exhaust gas into the crankcase can also cause the engine oil to oxidize. Therefore, after using for a certain period of time, the engine oil will usually deteriorate and lose its proper lubrication. However, with the continuous improvement of the quality of lubricants, especially the promotion of the use of thickened motor oils, the darkening of engine oil does not necessarily mean that the engine oil has deteriorated. This is because the clean dispersant added to the viscosified engine oil disperses the deposits on the machine components in the oil, causing the engine oil to become black in color. Therefore, engine oil blackening does not mean that engine oil is deteriorating. Most of the time, it is caused by impurities in the engine due to its cleaning function.

Misunderstanding 3: blindly choose the lubricant

Lubricants act to lubricate, cool, clean, and seal. The quality of lubricants is directly related to the length of life of the engine, so do not blindly select the engine oil. When selecting the engine oil, it is necessary to pay attention to the quality level as well as the viscosity grade. First, the performance level should be selected according to the compression ratio, displacement, etc.; then the viscosity level should be selected according to the temperature and load. When choosing the quality of oil, it should be rather high and not low. Good quality oil can ensure good engine lubrication, reduce wear, extend engine life, extend oil change intervals, and reduce the frequency and difficulty of maintenance and repair. When choosing the oil viscosity, in addition to the air temperature conditions, under the conditions of ensuring the lubrication and sealing of the engine, try to use low-viscosity engine oil in order to save fuel.

Misunderstanding 4: Mix engine oil

All kinds of lubricating oils, their base oils are the same except for different viscosity grades. The only difference is the type and quantity of the added ingredients. Therefore, the types and quality grades of lubricants are generally classified according to the types and amounts of the added components. Lubricants with different types of additives cannot be used in combination. Otherwise, additives in the oil may react chemically to impair the desired effect of the lubricant.

Misunderstanding 5: Lubricants only added without replacement

Many owners only pay attention to checking the amount of oil in the lubricant and adding it according to the standard. They do not pay attention to checking the quality of the lubricant and neglect to replace the already deteriorated engine oil. As a result, some engine parts are always in poor condition. Run in a lubricated environment to accelerate the wear of each lubricated machine. The engine oil must be replaced in strict accordance with the mileage required by the manufacturer. Generally speaking, the car should be replaced when it travels between 3,500 and 5,000 kilometers.

Misunderstanding 6: Adding more lubricating oil

The hazard of too little engine oil is well known. Therefore, some car owners are afraid that lack of oil will cause “sticky cylinders” and they believe that the total amount of added lubricant is better than that of less. Therefore, fuel is often not supplied as required to make the lubricant more than standard. In fact, too many lubricants have many hazards:

1. The crankshaft agitates while the vehicle is running, causing the engine oil to foam and degenerate, increasing the crankshaft rotation resistance, which will not only increase engine fuel consumption, but also reduce engine power.

2. Due to the increased combustion of oil from the cylinder wall to the combustion chamber, the oil consumption increases.

3. Accelerate the formation of carbon deposits in the combustion chamber, which makes the engine prone to deflagration.

Therefore, it is misunderstood that the engine lubricating oil is rather not less, generally the oil level should be kept slightly lower than the scale on the oil dipstick is appropriate, oil level is too high will be counterproductive.

Misunderstanding 7: The higher the viscosity of the lubricant, the better

To prevent wear on the contact surfaces between moving parts, the lubricating oil must have sufficient viscosity to form an oil film between moving parts at various operating temperatures. However, the viscosity of the lubricating oil must not be higher than that which affects the start of the engine, and it requires that the friction generated under continuous operating conditions be minimal. The use of lubricating oils with excessive viscosity increases the wear of the parts due to:

1. The viscosity of the engine oil is too large, the flow is slow, the upstream flow is slow, and the throughput is not large. It cannot be added to the friction surface in time.

2. If the viscosity of the lubricating oil is too high, the friction between the friction surfaces of the parts increases. To overcome the increased friction, more fuel is consumed, and the output power of the engine is also reduced.

3. If the viscosity of the oil is too large, the circulation speed of the oil will be slow, and the cooling and heat dissipation effects will be poor, making it easy to overheat the engine.

4. If the viscosity of the lubricating oil is too large, the circulation speed is slow, and the number of passages of the lubricating oil filter is small, and it is difficult to timely remove the worn out metal dust, carbon particles, and dust from the friction surface.

Therefore, do not use engine lubricating oils with excessive viscosity, and do not think that the higher the viscosity, the better. Under conditions of guaranteed lubrication, use a lubricant with a low viscosity as much as possible depending on the temperature range during use. However, for engines that have worn out relatively severely and have a relatively large gap, lubricants with a slightly greater viscosity can be suitably used.

Misunderstanding 8: High-grade cars must use imported lubricants

Some owners believe that high-end vehicles are expensive, while imported lubricants are of good quality and use imported lubricants are safer and more secure. In actual fact, evaluating the quality of lubricants does not depend on the strength of their advertising, but depends on their quality indicators and actual use. Most of the imported lubricants currently sold on the domestic market are joint ventures between foreign companies and China. Most of these lubricants are blended with domestic base oils and compounding additives at home. Therefore, high-grade cars should be selected according to their working conditions and technical indicators, technical performance of the appropriate quality of the lubricating oil.

Conclusion:

The above-mentioned eight common misuses of engine oil are frequently encountered by everyone. I hope everyone will correct it and add to it. In fact, the use of oil seems to be very common, but it is related to whether the vehicle can continue to use, compared to a certain component damage caused by poor vehicle operation is much more serious. Correct maintenance habits can allow vehicles to provide us with longer-term services. We hope everyone will pay attention!
