The Thai subsidiary of Solvay, Vinythai, will invest 155 million euros (about 196 million US dollars) to build the previously announced epichlorohydrin (ECH) plant in Taixing, China. The project will be built in the Taixing Economic Development Zone and will use Solvay's bio-based Epicerol technology. It is expected to be put into operation in the second half of 2014 and will be capable of producing 100,000 tons of epichlorohydrin annually.

Solvay stated that China's epichlorohydrin market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 8%, and in 2016 it will account for 35% of the world's total demand. In February 2012, Vinythai started production of a new 100,000 t/y epichlorohydrin plant in Mata, Thailand. The investment in Thai factories is 120 million euros, and the products are mainly supplied to the Asian market. The completion of the new plant in China will make Vinythai the second largest epichlorohydrin producer in Asia.
