From psi.illinois.edu: On December 16, 1977, Firefighter Anthony M. Gallo of the Schaumburg Fire Department made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to a false alarm. He was fatally injured when the fire truck he was riding on—specifically on the tailboard—overturned near the intersection of Higgins and Meacham Roads. The incident occurred after the fire truck swerved down an embankment to avoid a collision with a vehicle in front of it that had skidded on ice.
