The 14th Battalion on Chicago’s West Side responded to a fire reported near the intersection of Pulaski and Ogden Avenues. Engine 38 and Truck 48 arrived first around 05:44 and confirmed the presence of a fire, requesting a Still & Box unit. The battalion arrived shortly after and found heavy flames in a two-story, 50x125 commercial building. At 06:21 and 06:23, the 2-11 and 3-11 alarms were called in. Firefighters deployed six master streams and four hand lines to contain and extinguish the blaze. By 08:02, 2-1-6 took over the 3-11 alarm. As of 11:30 AM, crews were still on site, checking for hot spots and performing overhaul work. The building housed a music recording studio on the first floor and a banquet hall on the second.
