Sheboygan County is in mourning after losing one of its volunteer firefighters, who died in a crash near Adell on Saturday.

At just before 4:30 PM on Saturday, February 4th, the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a motor vehicle accident involving a pickup truck at Blueberry Lane and Pheasant Valley Road in the Town of Lyndon.

The sheriff’s office identified the driver as Ryan T. Moyer, a volunteer firefighter with the Waldo Fire Department. Earlier that day, Moyer and three others had gone out to distribute flyers for the 43rd annual Waldo Fire Department Brat Fry, which was scheduled for Sunday, March 12th.

Moyer and two friends were reportedly returning from the Random Lake Pizzeria when the truck veered off the road, went through a ditch, and ended up in a field. When first responders arrived, they found Moyer trapped inside the vehicle.

Nicholas A. TeBeest, 26, was airlifted by Flight for Life and is currently recovering at Froedtert Hospital. Tyler J. Collins, also 26 and a fellow volunteer firefighter from Waldo, was taken by ambulance to Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. Both are expected to make a full recovery.

Firefighters described Moyer as a devoted husband and father, deeply committed to his work in the fire department and his community. In 2015, he was named Firefighter of the Year. He leaves behind his wife, Julie, and their three-month-old son.

As of Sunday morning, funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the crash. Authorities are looking into factors such as speed and alcohol use as possible causes.
