Lake Zurich 2nd Alarm house fire in Hawthorn Woods 6-23-13

After midnight on Sunday, the Lake Zurich Fire Department received a call about a fire burning on the back deck of a home located at 11 Rosewood Drive in Hawthorn Woods. When first responders arrived, they found flames already spreading from the deck into the house. Fortunately, all residents had safely evacuated before the fire escalated. The neighborhood lacks fire hydrants, so the incident was quickly upgraded to a box alarm and then to a second alarm, bringing seven water tankers to the scene to support firefighting efforts. Waucondaâ€™s tower ladder was initially positioned for an elevated master stream as the fire moved into the attic. However, due to insufficient water supply, firefighters switched to a defensive attack using hand lines. To maintain a steady water supply, two portable tanks were deployed, and a tanker shuttle operation was launched through a Lake Zurich engine. The fire completely consumed the rear section of the attic and roof, causing damage to several rooms on the second floor. A local contributor shared early images of the fire, while Larry Shapiro provided additional photos and a video capturing the event. These visual records offer a clear view of the intensity and progression of the blaze.
