In April 2000, the 23-year-old Chen Zhongyu came to work at the home of the old man of Xu Dongfa, Zhongshan Road, under the organization of the Quanzhou Youth Volunteers Association. “To be honest, I was tempted to turn around and left, but I felt sorry for the word 'volunteers', but I bragged about talking to the 93-year-old grandfather,” said Chen Zhongyu. After talking, I learned that the grandfather and the couple had cataracts, the only son had mental illness, and there was a granddaughter in the family. This was the abandoned baby adopted by the old couple more than 10 years ago. This family of four is relying on the two elderly people to take care of garbage.

Since then, Chen Zhongyu has focused his volunteer service on assisting the elderly.

Over the past few years, under the premise of not affecting the work, Chen Zhongyu has visited Xu’s home at least twice a week and has brought with him daily necessities such as rice and noodles. During the holiday, volunteers are also invited to visit the house to clean the house for the elderly and to take care of the family. In the bad weather of rainy and rainy weather, Chen Zhongyu made early warnings to the elderly.

In the Volunteer Association, Chen Zhongyu advocated the establishment of the "Mayflower" helping old group and served as the team leader. In order to meet their wishes, Chen Zhongyu immediately contacted relevant departments and some merchants to plan an event for the disabled elderly “Quanzhou Day Tour”: the old man had a car shuttle back and forth, accompanied by volunteers while playing, and arranged at the attractions. Delicious meals.

Many widowed old people are afraid of death and no one ends. Chen Zhongyu and his volunteer team members enlightened them: “You treat us as your child. After you have been a hundred years old, we will send you an end.” Chen Zhongyu said that he had funerals for several elderly people who had helped him. Every time someone is sent away, he feels very sad, just like his loved one left.

In the past 12 years, Chen Zhongyu has initiated more than 1,000 volunteering services. He has organized and organized more than 80 large-scale voluntary service activities (times), raised more than 1 million yuan, and volunteered more than 3,500 hours. The amount of donated money for donated objects was nearly 100,000 yuan.

At the same time, he built QQ groups and wrote blogs to arouse everyone's sympathy and concern for vulnerable groups.

The 90-year-old lonely old man Wang Yueying still remembers her first meeting with Chen Zhongyu.

One day in 2005, Chen Zhongyu took several volunteers to the 90-year-old Wang Yueying’s home. She saw a team of young men moving daily necessities and daily necessities into the house. At that time, Aunt Wang had just been scalded by boiling water. When Chen Zhongyu saw that the elderly had acted wrongly, she saw pustules on her instep. She immediately went to the nearby community health station with her grandmother.
