Microwave treatment of high concentration ammonia nitrogen wastewater costs low

On January 18th, a microwave treatment unit for high-concentration ammonia nitrogen industrial wastewater, jointly developed by Wuhan Mayflower Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Wuhan Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd., successfully passed expert evaluation. This breakthrough technology is expected to significantly reduce the high costs associated with treating ammonia-rich wastewater in key industries such as steelmaking, coking, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals in China. The system has already completed pilot testing at WISCO's coking plant, where it demonstrated excellent performance, stable operation, and low operating costs. According to tests conducted by the Hubei Provincial Environmental Protection Agency, the equipment achieved a treatment efficiency of over 70% in removing high concentrations of ammonia nitrogen from coking wastewater. This innovation not only improves the efficiency of wastewater treatment but also provides a sustainable and economically viable solution for industrial sectors that have long struggled with high pollution control costs. With further optimization and broader application, this technology could set a new standard for industrial wastewater management in China and beyond. The success of this project highlights the power of collaboration between industry leaders and academic institutions in addressing environmental challenges through technological advancement.
