The Ministry of Commerce sets the export quota for refined oil products of state-owned enterprises in 2008 for export of rated oil products and rated state-owned enterprises in 2008

PetroChina Co. (PTR) executives announced on Friday, April 18, that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce has transferred the management of export quotas for refined oil products to two major state-owned enterprises: PetroChina and Sinochem (SNP). According to an unnamed executive, the government has significantly cut the kerosene export quotas for both companies, while maintaining the gasoline and diesel export limits at previous levels. The new quotas are now in effect and cover all major refined petroleum products exported from China, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and naphtha. The total export quota for 2008 amounts to 7.95 million tons, a slight decrease from the 9 million tons allocated in 2006. However, the exact figure for 2007 remains unclear. Notably, the kerosene export quota for 2008 is set at 1.5 million tons, down sharply from 4.48 million tons in 2007. Meanwhile, the gasoline export quota stands at 4.85 million tons, diesel at 400,000 tons, and naphtha at 1.2 million tons. This move reflects the government’s continued efforts to regulate domestic fuel supply and manage international trade flows. Analysts suggest that the reduction in kerosene exports may be aimed at ensuring sufficient supply for domestic use, particularly in rural and remote areas where kerosene is still widely used. Additionally, the unchanged gasoline and diesel quotas indicate a stable approach to maintaining energy security and supporting industrial demand.
