Schaumburg Fire Department history

From psi.illinois.edu:

On December 16, 1977, Firefighter Anthony M. Gallo of the Schaumburg Fire Department made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to a false alarm. Tragically, he lost his life in the line of duty after the fire truck he was riding on—specifically on the tailboard—overturned near the intersection of Higgins and Meacham Roads. The incident occurred when the fire truck swerved off the road to avoid a collision with a vehicle ahead that had slid on ice. This sudden maneuver led to the accident, which resulted in Gallo's fatal injuries.
