F1 in Schools and Autodesk Partner to Deliver Design Software to Students Worldwide

LONDON, July 17, 2013 — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has announced a groundbreaking partnership with F1 in Schools, offering students and schools worldwide access to a wide range of Autodesk 3D design software at no cost. This collaboration is set to empower over 20 million students across 40 countries who are involved in the F1 in Schools program. The initiative challenges participants to design and build scale-model Formula One cars of the future, blending creativity with engineering excellence. Andrew Denford, founder and chairman of F1 in Schools, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership. “Having Autodesk as a key partner is a major milestone for us. It not only supports our mission to grow the program globally but also helps us break down barriers that prevent schools from participating. Together, we can inspire the next generation of engineers and designers.” Autodesk will provide free access to powerful design, visualization, and simulation tools, allowing students to bring their ideas to life before constructing their miniature race cars from balsa wood. This initiative aligns with Autodesk’s broader mission to support education by giving students early exposure to digital tools that foster innovation and creativity. Chris Bradshaw, Chief Marketing Officer at Autodesk, shared his excitement. “It's incredibly rewarding to see young students, some as young as nine, using advanced software like virtual wind tunnels to test their designs—just like professionals do. We hope this partnership sparks a lifelong passion for design and engineering.” The F1 in Schools program challenges teams of three to six students to create their own Formula One team, designing, building, and racing a 21cm scale model car made from balsa wood and powered by compressed air. Teams present their work at regional finals, showcasing their design process through both written and verbal presentations. The cars then race on a 20-meter track, completing the distance in under a second. Regional winners compete for national titles, with the top teams advancing to the World Finals in Austin, Texas. There, they vie for the prestigious Bernie Ecclestone World Champions trophy and valuable scholarships to City University London. The partnership was officially announced today at an event held at Savoy Place in London, home to the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
