Lincolnshire haz mat 4-23-13

The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District received a call just after 9:00 AM on Tuesday from the Lincolnshire Marriott Hotel, reporting what appeared to be a chemical incident involving several employees who were feeling unwell. Upon arrival, first responders noted a strong chemical odor and began a preliminary investigation. As the situation escalated, hazardous materials (hazmat) teams from Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, and Countryside were dispatched to assist. No employees required hospitalization. After identifying the substances as various cleaning products, an entry team entered the hotel’s service area to safely collect the materials into two sealed storage containers. These containers were then prepared for removal by a licensed waste hauler. All firefighters and equipment that entered the hot zone underwent thorough decontamination, marking the successful resolution of the incident. Larry Shapiro captured several photos from the scene, offering a visual account of the response efforts.
